# Polkadot staking

> Stake DOT by nominating validators directly or through a nomination pool, both with a 2-day unbonding period.

Stake DOT on Polkadot two ways: nominate validators directly, or join a nomination pool that spreads a smaller stake across pooled nominations. Both are native staking; neither issues a receipt token.

## Yields

| Yield ID | Staking type | Provider | Validator selection |
| - | - | - | - |
| `polkadot-dot-validator-staking` | Native | Yield.xyz | Required |
| `polkadot-dot-pool-staking` | Pooled | Yield.xyz | Required |

## Choosing between the two

* [Validator staking](https://docs.yield.xyz/documentation/earn/staking/non-evm/polkadot/validator.md): nominate up to 16 validators directly with `validatorAddresses`. Rewards are auto-compounded.
* [Pool staking](https://docs.yield.xyz/documentation/earn/staking/non-evm/polkadot/pool.md): join a single nomination pool with `validatorAddress` (the pool ID). Rewards must be claimed manually.

Both yields share a 2-day unbonding period on withdrawal.
